Working together to give our students a bright future!

My name is Corrie Gant and I am running for the Bandon School Board.
When it was announced that there were five positions on the board that were up for election, I asked around to see who was willing to run. It turned out to be me.
I grew up in Coos County and moved to Bandon in 1987 with my husband, Paul Fisher, who owned and operated Mutter’s Gutters for more than twenty years. I served on the Bandon School Board from 2000 until 2009 and while things have changed, the one thing that hasn’t changed is school funding. I would like to see Bandon and the South Coast represented on the Oregon Rural School Board Member Caucus and see what rural districts can achieve when we work together.
I am very concerned with the rapid and sweeping changes that are occurring at the federal level, and how it will affect us here. In Bandon, 46.3% of our students qualify for free lunch and I do not want to see that program disrupted.
When I left the board in 2009, my biggest concerns were the scarcity of opportunities for the higher achieving students, and the lack of opportunities for the students who were not planning to go to college. I would like to explore how Bandon can offer SWOCC’s Expanded Options and Dual Credit programs to our students.
I believe that the school board can help find new opportunities for all of our students to learn and develop the skills that will allow them to become good citizens and good neighbors.
I believe the board can help our students graduate with intellectual curiosity, marketable skills, and a sense of civic responsibility. I am running for school board to help all of our students achieve this.
That is why I need your vote.
Thank you.
